Sometimes we have to inspect the very machines which enable us to inspect other higher level lifting equipment.
The engineer pictured here is inspecting an overhead travelling crane.
Ladders are no longer a viable option when inspecting at height.
The MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) being used to inspect the crane is a scissor lift platform type MEWP.
MEWP’s are subject to six monthly inspections by a competent person.
Our engineer would have ensured that this scissor platform lift had a current report of thorough examination prior to operating it.
Anyone operating a MEWP should hold a valid IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) license.
Every MEWP should also be issued with the manufacturer’s user manual.
Safety harnesses and lanyards are not necessarily required when operating scissor lift type MEWP’s in the UK.
