During a recent thorough examination on a newly installed four post ramp (vehicle lift) we noticed that one of the load ropes had incurred significant crush / impact damage.
We will never know if this vehicle lift was inadvertently assembled with the already damaged load rope in question or whether the damage occurred during routine operation following installation.
That particular issue is not for us to decide upon but it was a serious defect none the less which rendered the vehicle lift unusable due to highly probable load rope failure at any given time.
Consequently this vehicle lift was taken out of service pending repairs at a revenue cost to the owner.
The garage owner quite naturally assumed that his new vehicle lift would be free from issues for sometime.
There is good reason as to why we have regular six monthly inspection regimes in place for vehicle lifts irrespective of any age.
